You can place a hold on a book or other circulating item from within the library catalog at:

http://librarycat.richmond.edu

On the right of the screen in the item record, there is link for Actions > Make a Request.

You must then log in to your patron information and  to place a  request or hold.

Enter your ID number and your last name in the text boxes. See the Circulation Desk for questions about your patron bar code.

Select HOLD (if you'd like the item held at circulation for you) or RECALL (if the item is currently checked out) -- answer the questions and click submit  -- you'll be notified when the item is available for checkout.
